One can explore this great city on foot. Shanghai is very intimate and one will not get lost here, but one who comes here to see a part of traditional China will be disappointed. Shanghai has a more colonial past, and this can be found in the Old French Concession area, where European architecture watches over the tree lined streets in this area. Shanghai is recognised as the most up and coming fashionable and innovative part of china. The city has seen the rebirth of its arts and entertainment scene, and offers the tourist a great mix of entertainment. Pu Dong is mainly the financial district of Shanghai and has many high-rise office buildings. But what is fascinating, is viewing the Old Town and the Bund from this side of town Shanghai was known as the Paris of the East, and in the early part of the 20th century, had a very glamorous, cultured and yet decadent reputation. The city was practically closed off to the rest of the world, but now it is regaining its reputation as a real cosmopolitan Eastern city. Although Beijing is the capital of China and is the political centre, Shanghai is where the financial heart of China resides. The city is a very progressive and enterprising place to conduct business. |
