Many large movie theatres would show both Chinese and Hollywood films around Shanghai. Some other organisations show alternative foreign films with English and Chinese subtitles. To watch French films, go to the Cine Club de lAlliance. It has Chinese subtitles. To see German films, head into the German Consulate Auditorium. For some real Hollywood movies, call into the Shanghai Film Art centre or the Judy's Too Movie Centre. The Shanghai Grand Theatre is a top class international theatre with great style. It showcases lots of great dance performances, and especially with international acts. The Shanghai Stadium, the Shanghai Grand Theatre and the Majestic Theatre all stage Western and Eastern performances. You will also hear some great classical music in these theatres. Most of the plays in Shanghai are in Chinese only. There are also some great displays of Chinese acrobatics at the Shanghai Circus World, and at the Great World Entertainment Centre, which hosts very interesting acrobatic shows. Opera here in Shanghai is recognised for its very highly pitched vocals. The visual spectacle is amazing. Make your way down to the Yi Fu Theatre or else the Great World Entertainment Centre to catch a glimpse of Chinese opera. Sometimes Western operas would perform here in Shanghai. |
