There is a large number of luxury and business hotels here in Chinas most cosmopolitan city. Most of the hotels here are quite expensive and provide few options for the budget traveller. There are options for the budget traveller, with some hotels offering dorm- like rooms that are a lot cheaper to stay in. But if you have come here for the style and luxury, then you are in the best city in China to enjoy life's sweet luxuries. To travel across the city is no real problem, which is a real hassle -free experience that will surprise the Western tourist. Shanghai is very easy to navigate and has a small city centre. It has two main districts. The Eastern town (Pu Dong) and the Western town (Pu Xi). They face each other and across the great Huang- Pu river. Pu Xi is where the Old Shanghai can be found, while Pu Dong is where the New Shanghai is located. Pu Dong has the large hotels as well as the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and the Grand Hyatt Shanghai, while Pu Xi has the 20th century architecture of the Bund on its side. The Hong Qiao District is home to the Shanghai Mart, and the International Trade Centre, as well as the international airport. The business traveller usually stays here. Around Pu Dong district, one cannot but notice the Jin Mao building with its 88 floors. It is considered to be one of the tallest hotels in all of Asia. There is a great hotel inside the building along with lots offices, restaurants and businesses, which would be well worth a visit to marvel at the view of the city from this great vantage point. They say that this building represents the new urban style and prosperity of this ever-changing city. |
